As the United States readies for Memorial Day weekend, and with it the unofficial start of the summer season, this evening "Piers Morgan Live" checks in with Atlantic City, and its honorary ambassador, Michael Vick.
Devastated by October's Superstorm Sandy, the New Jersey beach town has been rebuilding in anticipation of the May holiday, and the Eagles quarterback has returned for the event, six months after first arriving to offer his help:
"It's a totally different make-up then what it was back in October when the hurricane hit. Just great to see everybody out, everybody just excited about the new opportunities," says the man who plays his pro football in nearby Philadelphia. "Just a very vibrant feel. And it don't get any better than that."
On the heels of Monday's devastating tornado, the NFL's 2010 Comeback Player of the Year offers some guidance to residents in Oklahoma now facing a similar situation as to those in New Jersey last fall.
"I would just advise the people who have been affected to just stick together. Understand that natural disaster is common, something that you can't control," says Vick. "Pick yourself up, and know that there's people that's on the way to help. You're going to get a lot of support from people around the country. We all stick together in time of need. That's the optimism that they need to have at this point."
Joining "Piers Morgan Live" from Atlantic City's famed boardwalk, Vick is joined by Mayor Lorenzo Langford, a man very much looking forward to seeing his town return to normalcy:
"Memorial Day for us, is the start of our busy season," he tells Morgan. "The summer season is our best season, and Memorial Day symbolically kicks off that season, and we're here today with Mike [Vick.] We're just ever so thankful that he's decided to come back and grace us with his presence, and to let the world know the Atlantic City is indeed restored, boardwalk is fine, and we're open for business, ready to go, and anticipating a wonderful, wonderful season."
Tune in at 9 as Langford reveals his position on the amount of aide Atlantic City received following Sandy, while the Philly signal-caller offers an evaluation of his NFL club's progress thus far under new head coach Chip Kelly.
