Roughly six weeks since journalist Michael Hastings lost his life in an automobile accident, on Monday evening his widow Elise Jordan joined Piers Morgan for her first national interview since his death:
"I was blessed to have the time with him that I had," she told the "Piers Morgan Live" host. "So I feel very lucky for that, and [I am] taking it day by day."
An outspoken critic of war in the Middle East, it was Hastings' "Rolling Stone" article entitled "The Runaway General" that led to the firing, and soon thereafter, retirement of US Army general Stanley McChrystal.
Since Hastings' death, various conspiracy theories have suggested that his car accident may be related to one of the author's typically intense investigations:
"I have no doubt that he was pursuing a hot story. He always had at least five hot stories going. That was Michael," Hastings' widow explained. "Right now the LAPD still has an active investigation ... my gut here is that it was just a really tragic accident and I'm unlucky in the world, the world was very unlucky."
