- Rick Santorum criticizes CNN's upcoming Hillary Clinton documentary
Some 16 months since dropping out of the 2012 presidential race, it seems as if Rick Santorum is ready to return to the campaign trail again.
On Thursday, the former Pennsylvania Senator was back in Iowa, leaving Piers Morgan to wonder about the potential "significance to the upcoming presidential election.” Though Iowa is traditionally seen as the launch pad for presidential hopefuls, Santorum insisted his presence there was merely coincidental.
Meanwhile, as many of Santorum's GOP colleagues have spoken out loudly against CNN's decision to air an upcoming documentary on potential Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton, the 55-year-old attorney and politician admitted to sharing the sentiment, labeling it a continuation of a long string of abuse by the liberal media:
“Let’s be honest, Piers,” said Santorum, while joining Morgan on "The Grill." "We already, as Republicans, you know, allow the media to run over us.”
While he recognized that FOX is no different in its treatment of Democratic candidates, the Hillary Clinton documentary raises new issues for Santorum:
“With respect to the coverage and the - and obviously this documentary,” he began, “I just think it's - it seems like you're in the promotion business or advocacy business instead of trying to report the news.”
Perhaps, one day soon Santorum will get a CNN special of his own, an idea he admitted makes him "curious." Until then, watch the clip to hear more from the potential candidate.

“It's just stupid”
On Thursday, "New York Magazine" writer-at-large Frank Rich tweeted that “if Reince and the GOP have the net savvy to use Google they'd be cheering on the CNN Hillary doc.”

Shortly thereafter, Piers Morgan invited him into the studio to expand:
“The guy that was hired by CNN to do the Hillary Clinton documentary is a guy named Charles Ferguson who won the Oscar for a movie called "Inside Job," noted Rich. "That is truly a demolition job on the financial establishment that led to the bubble and the crash."
Revealing that the upcoming film about the former first lady and potential presidential candidate may ultimately be critical, and not automatically positive, Rich insisted outraged Republicans haven't done there homework:
“Many Clinton administration people are implicated in that film indirectly at least and he's a tough, muck-raking guy, and it's hard to imagine that he's going to do a Valentine to Hillary Clinton," he explained. "At least know who won an Oscar. Look at Google. Look at 'Inside Job.' It's just stupid.”
Continuing on the topic, Rich suggested that there is nothing inherently wrong with network’s airing politically-themed programming:
“It's just silly this NBC miniseries. Does anyone really think that people who have an opinion about Hillary Clinton, whatever it is, pro or con, going to be swayed by Diane Lane doing a fictional version months, if not years, before the election," he asked as part of his live interview. "And by threatening to boycott NBC and CNN for GOP debates, how does that exactly hurt CNN and NBC? These are not exactly rating.”
Furthermore, Rich argued that the GOP’s threat to boycott the debates as a response to the documentary may have serious political consequences:
“It’s ghettoizing is the Republican Party presumably on FOX where ... all their candidates will pander the debates and they'll end up with, you know, Ted Cruz on the ticket. Is that what they want?”
