David Croom on his missing son Jonathan: "We want to change his story and have a happy ending"
Editor's note: Jonathan Croom's body was found around 6:30pm PT by the Douglas County Sheriff's Department. His body was located about 1000 feet from where the vehicle was abandoned in a wooded area. His death is being investigated as a suicide.
On the heels of Friday's news that an 18-year-old Arizonan by the name of Jonathan Croom had gone missing in Oregon, "Piers Morgan Live" invited David Croom to talk about his son's journey that seems to emulate the journey of Christopher McCandless, which inspired "Into the Wild."
"He apparently picked up this obsession or extreme interest in this movie and this story six to eight months ago," he told Piers Morgan. "They began to romanticize this entire idea not realizing the movie had a bad end. And that's been my concern about the whole thing, people tend to think it's romantic to go out and do that for fun, but they don't realize at the end of the movie that guy didn't make it. That's been my concern the whole time about this if that's what he's reenacting."
Croom wants to rewrite the story for his own son:
"In the movie, nobody got involved and looked for him, and so that's why we're out looking for Jonathan," he declared. "We want to change his story and have a happy ending."

Turn the TV off don't buy the game. Play and talk to your kid. Tell them story of your mistakes your dreams why we live the way we do. Most prayers go out to this young man's family and friends. It's too bad that when he talked suicide his friends didn't mention it to his parents or some other adult who might have been able to step in and support him through this loss.
My prays are for this beautiful young man & his family. Lets not blame any one please. We as parents, friends teachers and social workers, psychologist need to start focussing on telltail sighs of depression & mental illness & borderline, personality disorder are all liked to ESTRANGEMENT. Estrangement needs to be addressed more openly in our media.
