READ about Piers Morgan's long career in journalism here.
As yet another mass shooting rocks – and shocks – America, in the process dominating the news cycle and re-engerizing the national debate on gun control, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Live" invited a lively panel to discuss the more tenuous points of weapon legislation, and gun law.
"They don't use a consistent standard," insisted John Lott, an author and staunch gun rights advocate, when responding to Piers Morgan's mass shooting statistics as credited to "Mother Jones." "Piers, yelling isn't going to make those numbers right...others have looked at this, and they would warn you to be careful, not to use those numbers."
With the basis of the host's argument centering around a goal of limiting the number of firearms in circulation – specifically assault weapons – and tightening regulations, guests like Ben Ferguson routinely suggest that his desires are misguided.
"You want to blame the AR-15, and you think that if we ban this AR-15, federally ban it, that somehow that is going to fix the issue," said Ferguson, joining the program live, via satellite.
In contrast to Morgan, Ferguson favors arming the appropriate officials, and not simply guards at the front of a building, all in hopes of offering protection to every day citizens:
"We are saying that if you are in the United States Navy, and we trust you with Navy ships, and war," began the conservative radio host, "why the hell wouldn't we trust you to carry your weapon to work with you, when we trust you with top secret information?"
Watch the clip for more of Morgan's interview with the likes of Lott and Ferguson, and for the next edition of "Piers Morgan Live," watch CNN every night at 9.

Can't have this debate every time there is a shooting? You act as if you are an American. Gain citizenship and then make that argument. Until then you are not welcome in my country. Unfortunately the immigration service allows you to be here. You better hope CNN doesn't can you for your tabloid journalism and sends you back to Jeremy Clarkson for another "lesson" on etiquette. Or you can mind the business of your claimed he country and stay out of ours.
Not the time to be attacking Piers KM. The problem is right here in the US and not with his commentary. By the way, born and raised in the US since 1966 and you are more than welcome to not only to be in this country but to express your Opinion as well Piers. Not that you need my permission :)). Point that came to my attention. I do believe in freedom to possess a firearm. I believe that this is one of the main reasons that the US has never been directly assaulted in war on our soil. If you have that many people with that many weapons it would be suicide to do so. Point to make is that the gun nuts say we should arm our Teachers so that we can protect our schools. That's all we need to do is arm our Teachers and provide some guards with more weapons to make sure our children are not gunned dowm by some nut with a gun. This guy walked in to a Naval Yard that is fully protected by guards with full Auto Weapons, security, gates, etc and 12 people died. What do you expect a few "teachers" to do with a small caliber handgun tucked behind his waistband as he is trying to teach a lesson on HISTORY to his First graders.
Great response Doug!!!
You are incorrect about the security at the base. Yes, there are guards when you enter, but once inside, it is a gun-free zone. Take note how all of these mass shootings have two things in common, 1) it was in a gun-free zone, and 2) the shooter had serious mental health problems. This man should have never had a security clearance with his history. And the base should allow people who are allowed to carry weapons everywhere else to also carry them on base. Remember Ft. Hood? Also a gun-free zone.
IT WAS A SHOTGUN THAT WAS USED!!! NO FULL AUTO GUN! GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT!!
If a shotgun (recommended by VP Biden for home defense) was preferred over an AR-15 by a very successful (unfortunately) mass murderer ... it means that Piers' crusade against semi-autos is at least moot.
He must address this issue tonight.
Enough is enough . God bless you Mr.Morgan American or not thank you for standing up for all of us. It doesn't take much thinking to know guns of any caliber , let alone, the assault killing machine that was used on Mondays massacre does not and should not be available and accessible to us.
The shooter brought a shotgun, you know, the weapon Biden said we should have? Piers Morgan is such an idiot, having an entire show about a weapon that was NOT used in the shooting. Where are the real journalists?
Mary.... Seems you are just like all the other liberals... The fact that piers said there was an AR15 used does not make it the truth..... The FBI stated that the shooter had a SHOTGUN when he entered the base.... NO AR15 ..... He gained access to other weapons from the DEAD..... Please try to be a little objective and studious before you come on a forum and make yourself look like a FOOL......
"[Firearms] should not be available and accessible to us?" Then who should have access to firearms? The people who tell you what to do and how to live? Please remove yourself from this great country and take Piers with you.
Piers Morgan was probably an avid reader of Mein Kemp.. That's what Hitler did, and a few others. Removed the firearms then went after the Jews, I wonder what piers agenda Is for America since he's a Self proclaimed activist trying to save America like the British did the first time when they burned the Whitehouse down. I would trust anything he says as a person. And as a person, he's spreading hate and discontent through a place that use to report news. Now he's using the media outlet as the truck drivers do with no focus on the mission statement.
wrong Mary, it was not an assault weapon used in the shooting. It was a SHOTGUN!!!! Also TWO Handguns taken from security
Mary, Enough is Enough. The Harvard Law Journal published a report called "WOULD BANNING FIREARMS REDUCE
MURDER AND SUICIDE?" which compared the firearm laws with several nations around the world to the Murder and Suicide rates of those same countries. The conclusion is, Both events (Murder and Suicide) are a cultural issue that can not be corrected via legislation. Banning guns did not reduce the overall Homicide or Suicide rate in the countries where those rates were already high. However, in countries were these rates were already low, allowing the good citizens to own even military grade fully automatic firearms did not increase the homicide/suicide rate. Enough is Enough. Try reading reports outside your comfort zone. I do, and I am convinced even more that disarming the good citizens will not make anyone safer.
Do you realize how America came to be? America was founded by immigration. I was born and raised in this country and am ashamed of how most Americans think and how the people let the government walk all over it's citizens. Its sad to see that ignorance is still bred in this country that results in such hatred. Piers has a point. The second amendment was put in place to defend our borders from invasion. It isn't there so some idiot can buy whatever gun he wants and go shooting people. Just because Piers comes from the UK does not mean he has no intelligence or can't have an opinion.
Sorry but you need to actually read the 2nd Amendment before you comment on it. It doesn't have anything to do with invasion, hunting, muskets, etc. It is specifically written and intended to give the people the means to ensure that they are not subject to the type of government they just overthrew.
Well for one thing, the last time the British tried to take guns away, I hope you know the rest, and maybe if piers wasn't an illegal Alien we might let him hang hang out, number three, it sounds like I know how you were raised the nut doesn't fall to far from the tree. You don't buy guns to go kill people, ill let the government take care of dumping more chlorine in the gene pool. Number 4 piers has zero information that's correct about anything relating to Guns, at best he's jumping with those short little legs grasping for straws and hopes someone is stupid enough to listen, and it shows when he opens his mouth that he knows nothing on the subject, and at best on the subject he has to steal someone else's argument because he has none of his own, and after all, how could he, he's probable never seen one up close. As far as he's ever come to defending anything it's those lame arguments he has on TV, and you wouldn't be defending something that pathetic had it not been for the fact that he's on TV. and with that he runs back to the UK award ceremonies and tells them how stupid and weak people like you are at his butt kissing flagellation party.
I think I'll stand outside of Buckingham palace with a sign reading **** the queen to protest royal decadence. Adds about as much to British politics as Piers has added through his non-arguments and the British people and government will respect my opinion and not deport me right?
2nd amendment to protect us from goverment
If "Leave our country" is the best you can do, your position is weaker than a house of cards. Xenophobia never wins in the long run.
I don't particularly care if Pier Morgan lives in the United States or not. All I ask is CNN remove him from this show (let him go back to judging jj"America's Got Talent" or something ) and find a commentator of the stature of the person Piers Morgan replaced. Find another Larry King!!!!!!
Tell Piers to go back to England if he doesn't like guns, and quit trying to cram his beliefs down everybodys throats..
Guns save more lives than they cost. Is Piers going to outlaw machetes in african nations because some gangs there use them to cut peoples arms and legs off, and kill them. People kill people. I for one would rather be shot with a gun than hacked with a machete. The way to stop crime is to impose a swift death penalty for criminals and lock up the lunatics instead of letting them run loose until the next time they stop taking their medications. Then only thing keeping the crazies and criminals from running rampant is their fear that their next intended victim might have a gun to protect themselves with.
Piers, England already tried once to disarm us and take us over. Kiss my butt if you think we will allow it to happen again...
The problem is not his citizenship, but his stupidity: his information is not correct as the shooter DID NOT have an AR 15 but a Remington 870 Shotgun, which he had bought legally the day before. The only AR 15s used at the base were in use by the responders. I suggest that Mr. Morgan contacts a psychiatrist in order to resolve his obvious, and quite ridiculous, fixation with the AR 15 (which by the way is an icorrect way to describe that type of gun anyway)

I didn't know piers was an illegal alien, now wonder he hates guns so much, he must have a lot of problem jumping the fence. That's terrible, dang illegal alien over here talking about how bad it is here. He needs to go south of the border a couple times to learn from them.
Piers comes from a country where they have strict gun control, and, as a result, very few gun-related deaths. This is something a typical American could never understand, and is the perfect reason why Piers is the perfect person to make the argument. I am American. I was raised with guns in my house, was taught to shoot from a young age, and then served in the US Marines during the GWOT and Operation Iraqi Freedom. I've done a hell of a lot of shooting. After leaving the Marines, I moved to Australia, where they have extremely strict gun control, which was enacted in 1996 after a gun massacre at Port Arthur in Tasmania. Since then, Australia's gun crime has reduced substantially, and continues to fall every year. There hasn't been a mass shooting in Australia in the 17 years since the legislation took effect. As an American living in a country that has tight gun laws, I am in a unique position to have seen both sides of the argument. Piers is no different, and is therefore very well qualified to speak on the subject. Americans who have no experience with gun control (and I mean REAL gun control, not the ridiculous laws we pass in the US that amount to little more than symbolic political posturing) are the ones who are in no position to make an educated judgment.
And you did not succeed in making your three opponents fall over each other like you had likely planned. Neither did you succeed on making yourself look like a lone voice in the wilderness. Of course you had no chance to take them apart one by one as you make use of polemical representations of statistical data
No, I think he made these fools look like the clowns they are: out of touch, confused, bought-and-paid-for by the NRA to push its tiresome fear mongering positions.
How so? Besides riling them up and jumping between them to try to get them to talk over each other. Even when Piers was trying to get John Lott to call the statistics bogus VS calling the use of the statistics unethical. The Antis have tried to label people into their 20s as children, so you really can't take Mother Jones at face value. Where is your argumentation to back up your statements?
Actually, piers looked like a little baby who didn't get his way, after they figured out that you could care less about firearms, and you just used the topic to drag a few people on stage to point out your vulgar false sense worth and narcissistic self stemming, the one guy in the middle had to pull out the " Your a Baby" move setting ground rules that you need to shut up until Im finished to save face, then humored you which is more than I would have done, and explained something that you'll never understand, self defense in a Mob, which is no easy feat, aw. Yeah,,, About that,,,
Most of the shooting in the USA are gangs the problem was this man as the others lose nothing its not there families not there love ones that are going to suffer may be they should.
What if we do this, take away all government aid, to any ones family that is in a gang that killed some one. They don’t seem to care about going to jail, it’s a joke to them. So what if there social security, there food stamps, there welfare, was cut off, to there families. This would make them understand that they are not just hurting the family of the person they killed, but there own family. This would make there family’s, make sure they were not in the gang. Put a little skin in the game, it would change the way they think now wouldn’t it.
They can win back aid and other benefits by turning in gang members that have killed.
So these mass shootings and murders are gang related? I do not believe so. These are a direct result of people being allowed to have guns they should not and people not sounding off warnings when they see someone who has great potential of this behavior. Every time there's at least one or more people saying, " I thought there was something wrong with that guy."
Guns in US is a lost case...Americans are teenagers out of control, Europeans are matured adults....it is a lost argument just like any argument with your teenager....unless you from Europe you will not understand your argument....I do!!!
Last info I heard out of Great Britian was that the people wanted their firearms back.
Yes, sounds mature to me. They realized they made a mistake giving up what rights they still had a few years ago.
Oh, and MR MORGAN..... as I understand it this morning, no AR was used in the Navy yard shooting.
Put a big FAIL on you forehead, Mr Morgan.
What piers and his ilk fail to mention is that the UK has had an epidemic of stabbing so that officers have to wear vests to protect against them. Sure gun crime has gone down, the criminals are using knives, which can be just as dangerous and untraceable. Maybe you won't see a lot of mass stabbings, but mass shooting/stabbings are rare and crime and homicide are widespread. Not that rare if it happens to someone you know, but there are larger issues. This is a is a societal issue not a weapons issue. But passing laws is the easy way out, so Piers can go on ranting and ignoring the root issues
If they're so grown up, must be talking about the rest of Europe. I heard the streets after a 11pm is a turd floater, that would mean immaturity runs ramped. If England wanted to join the rest of the Civilized world, A good first step is stop urinating on the streets.
France, Sweden, Belgium, Finland and Norway plus a few other nations in Europe would disagree with you.
Piers is ranting about an AR-15 purchased in Virginia. The suspect purchased a shotgun in VA. He took the AR-15 off a responding police officer that he shot. You owe it to your viewers to GET YOUR FACTS RIGHT........
Right you are, he doesn't even know the difference between a base and a shipyard.
How dare you tell the truth when Piers is being dishonest in order to further his anti-second amendment mission!
Morgan ranted and walked all over his guests. He presented them with false information and, because they were not aware of the FACTS, could not effectively respond to his aggressive, impolite and inaccurate attack. Not sure why CNN wants to give this Brit a platform. His behavior is insulting and he owes his guests an apology. Piers, make sure your brain is engaged before putting your mouth in motion...... As the Muslim menace becomes more acute in the UK, I would be willing to bet that Brits will regret not having weapons. One thing is sure, the radical Islamist will have theirs......
Mr. Morgan is not interested in interviewing his guests. He seems to enjoy interviewing himself. He is rude and annoying and that is why I turned the channel and stopped listening to the ass.
Opposed to fellating the gun nuts?
He has NO clue. He needs to be fired! I have watched him for years and he is way out of control on this topic.
Ben Ferguson: "We are saying that if you are in the United States Navy, and we trust you with Navy ships, and war, why the hell wouldn't we trust you to carry your weapon to work with you, when we trust you with top secret information?"
Ummmm,..... the contractor met that description and he sure as hell couldn't be trusted.
He did not meet the requirements to receive a security clearance. He had a PATTERN OF MISCONDUCT discharge, which means other than honorable. Therefore he was suppose to be issued a security clearance after than, also he was not suppose to be able to purchase guns of any kind. So that would mean that the federal government system failed to do their job properly.
It is painfully obvious the background check standards and procedures aren't strict enough.
After all, this guy obtained a "secret" security clearance, well beyond what an ordinary American needs to purchase a firearm.
I mean he WASN'T suppose to receive a security clearance or the ability to purchase guns.
I just seen Piers Morgan when he was running his mouth against 3 other people on the debate of ar15's... I own a ar15..... I have never went on a shooting spree and I never will..... I am a law abiding citizen. Those people who have committed those unforgivable acts are P.O.S Cowards. But because I own one, Piers Morgan believe that its a bad thing. Because I am an American and the right to bear arms is every Americans right. Piers Morgan are you saying taking away my ar15 will make the world a better place? or perhaps only allowing it to hold 10 rounds? Or I have to fill out a registration to own it? You are a ****ing dumb *** Piers Morgan and it is Americans like you who are destroying this country one ignorant thought at a time. You can can have my guns when you pry them from my cold dead hands.
Why would any citizen need an assault rifle? These type weapons should be for military or law enforcement use only. Not to be carried home. Should be checked in and secured when not on duty. Check the statistics for gun crimes and violence in countries where they have banned firearms vs. America. Just because you can do/have something does not mean it is the better or most intelligent option. What would you do if someone broke into your house while you were away and found your AR15, you came home while the burglar was still there and used it to kill your family? Broaden your mind instead of the gaping hole in your face.
i own an ar15 and use it every time i go to my ranch and hunt hogs or sheep...there are too many out there for my deer rifle that only holds 3 shells...you have no idea what you are talking about! most people who own guns keep them locked up you idiot
Jarrod, the voice of reason, stupidity, and ignorance that characterizes the gun rights movement as selfish, paranoid saps who have nothing better to do with their time.
First of all get the facts straight, this was a Naval Shipyard NOT a Navy Base. Get the facts before you start criticizing security and protocol of a military base. The shooter took the AR from a guard he shot. You are arguing an issue that did not occur. If you keep on suggesting it was a Navy base, you can bring unwanted attention to all active military installations. As a Journalist I would hope you use proper terms before coming on the air. Fort Hood was a base, this today is a shipyard.
Reblogged this on Bag Lady Boutique.
It's simple, stop watching Piers and CNN will replace him!
I believe that Mr. Morgan is an opinionated bully who refuses to let his guests even make their opinions known. He always tries to indicate that life is somehow much better in England than in the United States. I feel that you should send him packing to England and thereby restore some semblance of objective news reporting to CNN. I have no intention of tuning in for any future CNN broadcasts when Mr. Morgan is on the air.
Steve, you are 100% correct, life in England is much better than the US, but you will never understand it, but Pierce will...
Piers is correct. NO offense to anybody but the comments above and on this blog are way off target. I highly respect Piers after he TRIED to bring up the fact other countries in the world have guns but their killing rate is WAY LOWER than US. Piers tried to ask why. This subject is hardly ever discussed in the news. Why not? I think the public is not mature or intelligent enough to deal with it? Show executives and producers need to keep ratings high to keep sponsors coming? The problems is not guns in America, but the sense of belonging and community in America.
Mother Jones data analysis was not "peer" reviewed and would not withstand the rigor of a REAL analysis. The selectively cherry picked data to fit their conclusion. Time to get a new job Piers and stop trying to pretend that what you do is journalism ... it is the worst kind of intellectually dishonest sensationalism ... no surprise there
To be fair, people have found fault with John Lott's data, too.
Only the liberal media have found fault with Lott's data, Mr. Peebles.
Eery time Piers Morgan hosts a program after a mass shooting in the US, her refers to the absence of shooting deaths in Great Britain without noting the laws regarding gun possession among peace officers in the USA and Great Britain. In Great Britain, "bobbies," "peace officers," are not permitted to carry weapons, unless they are a member of the "special officers trained to carry weapons" and called in when officers on duty make the call to request the services of specially trained officers. I think of the geographical size and population of the United States and compare it to that of Great Britain and I wonder if there is a more difficult situation in the states. In Great Britain, we certainly see the royals with hunting rifles; I think back to my childhood in rural Ohio where every child the age of six years knows safety rules, such as "never point a rifle at anyone" and, where every child the age of six years knows to "immediately drop to the ground" if you see a weapon pointed towards you. I must wonder if the culture surrounding hunting with rifles, may be enough to permit rifles and safety of human life to co-exist. On the other-hand, Mr. Morgan needs to think back on his own childhood in Great Britain any night he must host another show on a mass shooting in the states. Mr.Morgan, in Great Britain not even your peace officers carry a weapon while on duty. Only special duty officers, trained in the practice and use of weapons, are called to a site if the peace office on duty make the request to dispatch. Mr. Morgan, you are the host of a news program and so I ask you to get your research team to see how many mass shootings, if any, have been committed with a hunting rifle? As an anthropologist, I would also like to hear you mention a possible bias, as you were raised in a country that prohibits their "bobbies," or "peace officers" to carry a weapon on duty. In Great Britain, only "bobbies" or peace officers are permitted to make the request for specially trained, armed, officers to be dispatched to the site. I noted how hunting culture appears to include enough rules to help protect a young child from an accidental injury. Mr. Morgan, you have repeatedly focused on a need for stricter gun laws here, and I wonder if you remember the laws in Great Britain. When I listen to your British accent, I think about a society raised to believe the every day police force has no need to carry a weapon, and about police officers trained to control a potentially dangerous, until specially armed and trained members arrive on site.
And your point is??? I got bored halfway through your ' book' falling asleep; saying a lot but saying nothing...are you a politician??
NO offense but you make no point at all. Canada also has many guns but way less shootings than America. Why?
Why? because Americans have a gun mentality. The rest of the civilized western countries don't. Until they change their mindset all the laws in the world won't help them. The more violence the more guns they buy. Hard to believe an entire country can be that stupid, but they are. Arm teachers, arm movie goers, arm shoppers etc. Where does it end? forget the mass shootings. 10,000 murders a yr. Untold gun violence daily. 300 million guns & counting.
I can tell u that in other western countries we don't walk around with guns shooting people not because of laws. What are the laws anyway?...who cares why because it is not in our DNA.
They will make their mental health excuses, because after all people in other countries have no mental health issues. Well no then violent video games/movies/music. I guess that is it because no kids play video games/watch movies/or listen to music in other countries. No father in the house. That must be it because divorce is no where but in the US.
Piers seriously stop wasting your time. If killing children in an elementary school doesn't faze them nothing will.
Americans worry about terrorism...they are doing it to themselves.
Likewise Britain has one of the lowest gun ownership levels in world and yet it has a homicide rate that's substantially higher than many of its large gun owning European neighbors.
USA is capable of protecting its citizens from any kind of external aggression/enemies but not from its own citizens. The main reason for this is the belief that 'guns can protect'. Whereas, guns can only kill. A desire to own a gun is the desire of a immature mind. Children like to play with toy guns. And the same children when grow up physically and remain a child in the mind, like to play with real guns.
Since you are such an adult, and do not feel owning a gun is mature, can I come and put a Gun Free Zone sign in front of your house? Come on, stand behind your words.
Way to setup a straw man Reasonable. The commenter was suggesting there is a pathology about gun ownership that is extremely infantile, and you respond with complete nonsense.
Well have fun protecting yourself and home with a "Smile" Naive!
If you don't like guns go back to the UK. I don't care! I hate you! As far as I am concerned you are an insignificant liberal hack with no morals. You are FREE to leave if you don't like my guns. Hell the borders are open and you can just walk across if you want. Bye!
I guess piers is bouncing like a yo yo. Scream and yell like a Little girl, that will help. Hey dumb dumb, from what I hear about this guy is had a dishonorable Discharge, hhhmmmm,, you think it's legal to buy a firearm with BIG CHICKEN DINNER,,,,BCD. I THINK Your defending a criminal. And it's illegal to have a CHL with a BCD. You said you can't have this debate anymore, then you said you'll do it again, which is it, like the guy said, your obsessed with AR15's. OBTW. Did murder stop in England where you belong,
Hey, you forgot to mention how One guy can go to a base with heavily concentration of ARMED GUARDS, and still 12 people died. I blame that o. Crappy security. The MP s can't protect the guy standing next to. Them.so why don't you call it like it is, don't forget turd, you can't have a dishonorable and buy a weapon,it's on the federal registration form, so you need to get your facts straight and its PTSD,NOT PDST,Don't get that screwed up either turd. So your a hypocrite, your blaming Ar15s, your next guest to you it was mental health, your all screwed up and full of crap like a X-mas turkey. What makes me laugh at night is your reading a script, and can't even hear the guy that's your guest. It's like your on a whole other sheet of music, so have you heard when their going to fire you yet, after you tried to get a job back in England?
I am sitting watching Piers Morgan yapping off about the shootings today, As tragic as this is YOU Mr. Morgan need to get your facts straight. Dave's post above mirrors my thoughts. I will NOT watch his garbage any longer! People should start a boycott of CNN until he is removed from the air. He is a pot stirring Loud Mouth that feeds on the suffering of others! He will not listen to the answers any guest tries to give, he abruply cuts them off if they challenge his views, He needs to go! NOW!!!
Lets start guarding our gun law borders. We could put every unemployed person back to work ! The NRA wants us to enforce existing gun laws not write new ones. We may not be any better at guarding gun borders than our national borders but a job is a job. We could fine the gun border criminals to pay for the program. We could also resell the guns for funding and job security. Nothing else is working.
I am not against some limited form of gun control. But, people kill people, not guns. The people involved are sick. One big issue you never discuss us how the media constantly airing these tragedies and going over and over it can tip an unstable person to consider a violent act as a way to solve their issues or make their point. Pierce, let up a little. It is not J U S T guns that are the problem. You can do tour part by not harping on it and making it so famous.
How's this for stats? 2500 shootings with lone gunmen stopped by armed civilians. In ONE year.
http://rense.com/general95/sch-shootings-stopped.html
Y bad and a list of shootings from previous years. Stopped by armed civilians.
Once again we have a gun shooting tragedy in America! Is anyone surprised? We just need to admit that the USA is a violent country and hope that these tragedies happen fewer and further between. I respect Piers' right to take his position (no matter what his nationality), as well as the gun lobby, but all of this blather amounts to nothing. As long as the NRA continues to buy off politicians who hide behind the 2nd amendment, there will never be any resolution to this problem. Pray for the victims. That is about all we can do – and, of course, wait for the next time!
Just unbeliveable it happens again and again some noise is made and that's it! The 3 gentlmen interviewed are the reason this WILL happen again as sure as the sun will rise. Please also tell them that a dead person is a dead person be it 1 or more it don't make a difference. If any one has mental issues then too 12 people are difficult to kill with a pencil!!
Morgan and other liberal gun gabbers have been salivating for another shooting to exploit for their gun gabbing agenda...The comparison being made between the armed guards at that navel base and teachers being armed,is not correct and inaccurate...two different types of situations...Washington DC has probably the most gun control in the country and DC has a total ban on Semi automatic AR style rifles.. BTW less people die each year in this county by being shot with any kind of rifle then by being killed with hammers ...Chicago just to name one city has on a regular bases a dozen or so shooting every weekend, and yet Morgan and the liberal media rarely even mentions this...By far the most gun violence in this country is being done by criminal thugs shooting other thugs with illegal handguns..Gun control is not the answer and has been proven over and over to be ineffective and worthless..just as banning certain kinds of cars would be to prevent auto accidents and drunk driving. Morgan couldn't wait to say that the shooter used a "assault rifle" and that everyone was shot by it...Not true...The doctors had reported earlier that day that victims were shot by other calibers...meaning more then one gun was used...and the AR rifle could have been taken from a guard and I have no doubt that if the AR were taken from a guard or police officer that this would be covered up by the feds.
You're an a$$ brass. NO ONE has been salivating for another mass shooting.
If anything, this incident wets the lips of gun makers and sellers, who almost always see increased sales after these tragedies.
It certainly is time that the USA investigate on how these tragic shootings are going to be minimized or even eradicated. I do however have a problem with the way Piers Morgan conducted his interview with Ben Ferguson and the other two gentlemen. His put his view forward but will not allow the other parties to air their views by speaking conyiniously while they are trying to express their views. Piers why do you invite guests to your your show if you are not interested to afford the change to put their views across. I have always enjoyed your interviews, but if you continue in this way I will certainly start switchiing to another channel in future. Bye the way, I live in South Africa where we have very strict gun control laws. despite these laws more innocent people (especially farmers and helpless old people) are being murdered in my country every year, than American soldiers dying in the Afganistan and Irak every year.
Piers, thank you for your courages and bold stand against the carnage that American inflicts on itself. May I make a modest suggestion. We need to stop talking about "Gun Control". American's hate the anything with the word, "Control". Let us advocate for sensible "Gun Safety" instead.
While this might seem like a game of semantics, we all know the power of words. Who can be against, "Gun Safety"?
Sensible "Gun Safety" can include measures like; background checks, required safety training in order to obtain a gun permit, requiring liability insurance, just like we do with autos, and even banning the ownership of military style guns except for gun range practice and sport.
Many Thanks
Zave
That sounds good on principle. We all know that doesn't work. All the laws and regulations will not halt gun violence. Criminals don't pay attention to laws. That's why they're criminals. The only way to stop it or even put a dent in is to remove the weapons from citizens. My father is an NRA member and is very responsible with his guns. They stay locked in a safe when he's not hunting. We have the gun law debate too. The unfortunate fact is our country hasn't even overcome racism and hatred. It has been over fifty years since slavery was abolished but yet the hatred still remains. People don't accept other people so what makes you think our society is ready to accept the responsibility of deadly weapons? Americans have a belief of superiority, among our own countrymen as well as others. They choose to ignore sense and compassion.
I don't know why you think that taking the guns away from all the responsible gun owning citizens would stop all the gun violence we see here in America. Considering that the majority of gun crime is committed with illegally obtained firearms, that would only continue and more than likely get worse if the right to bear arms was taken away. Besides all that it seems like everyone is getting off the point that this man never should have gotten any kind of security clearance as well as been able to buy any type of firearm due to his general discharge from the military because of a PATTERN OF MISCONDUCT
Zave, your also a MORON
Now there's a Cheer Leader for Decent with NO real OPINION.
IS THAT BEN WHO WENT TO MCDONALDS AFTER 911 INSTEAD OF THE MILITARY
It's now being reported that Alexis entered the base with only a shotgun...and that he took 2 handguns from guards ..and no AR type of rifle was used at all. If this is true then that would make Morgan incompetent or a liar.or both.because he went on and on about Alexis using only a AR type of rifle without knowing the facts.
Because the gun nuts would have conceded the point had it been an AR-15? Probably not.
Your gripe with media inaccuracies is legitimate, but it does not strengthen to pro-gun position.
CNN reports today it was a shotgun and not an AR-15. Changes the discussion slightly, more to mental health which seems to be the root cause.
This guy loves hearing himself talk and spouts off misinformation before getting ANY correct facts. The UK didn't want him anymore, we shouldn't want him so please go away Piers!
So..the AR15 was not used. When can I expect the retraction from Piers and CNN for his out burst on the air last night. When will you allow"get the facts first" in your reporting? When will you allow the time needed to offer a clear and concise reporting of events. When will you fire this fool?
so now tthat its not a AR15 are you still trying to ban them or are you trying to ban shotguns???
Morgan is a MORON
Mr. Morgan played fast and loose with the facts last night, just as he always does. It is sad that what was once a pretty good news organization has fallen so low that someone like him would even be on the air, much less have his own show. How about it, Mr. Morgan, will you have the ethical backbone to go on the air tonight and admit that you were wrong about the shooter legally buying an AR15 in Virginia? Will you have the ethical backbone to admit you engaged in really sloppy journalism? And will you have the ethical backbone to present the information on mass shootings from a recognized scholarly article instead of from a puff piece in Mother Jones? Somehow, I doubt it. Bullies are cowards at heart and are afraid to admit they are wrong, and you are a bully of the worst kind, Mr. Morgan.
Here is a suggestion that might help curtail this gun violence: Families of slain victims should start suing these gun shops for not checking backgrounds. Force them into a court battle that could last a long time costing them time and money and maybe force them to close their doors.
Sensationalizing events in order to advance a political agenda is wrong. People are less likely to be killed by a mass shooter than by a gang banger, lightning, drunk driver, heart disease, cancer or natural disaster. Collectivists find that using emotionally charged events like this one, make it easy to manipulate the opinions of the intellectually dependent. Stating that mass shootings only occur in the US is a testament to the ease of manipulating the uninformed from a position of perceived responsibility and credibility. Piers has a fiduciary duty to avoid making false or misleading statements to his viewers if he wants to be respected as a journalist or TV host. Touting logic as the backbone of his arguments is flawed if he cherry picks his facts and continues to make blanket statements in order to further his personal agenda. I hope he reads this and reflects on his approach. So far, he has become one of the talking heads that seems to galvanize the resolve of American gun rights activists and pro-gun single issue voters.
" There have been 10 separate shootings in Washington, D.C., since the night of Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, not counting the rampage at the Navy Yard on Monday morning, police told The Huffington Post over the phone. The number reflects only those shootings to which police responded."
"Those 10 shootings left two dead and an additional 13 wounded."
"The shootings did not capture the attention of the national news media. Even among many local outlets, most of the shootings were ignored."
So CNN is this the reason you have not covered any of this?
"Five separate shootings occurred between 10 p.m. Thursday night and 8 a.m. Friday morning in various neighborhoods across the city. One of the incidents occurred on 14th St. Northwest, a popular area full of bars and restaurants, but most were in lower-income areas."
How about it?
. Chicago nearly always has a dozen or more shootings every weekend, and it's rarely reported in the media and this includes the pompous deceitful snooty windbag Morgan.
Not only was a AR 15 not used and Morgan was grossly irresponsible in his reporting, even going as far to say "Alexis had legally bought this rifle"...that had to be an outright lie and Morgan should be immediately fired from CNN. I can almost hear Morgan now..."What difference does it make" quoting a famous liberal line. ...it is also now known that this navel base was lacking in their security and have been even warned to beef up their security..and that the feds have actually cut funds for security...Which means this could be also the federal government fault which is not surprising.
Piers – where is your public retraction for getting the story wrong – NO AR-15 USED DURING THE SHOOTING!!! You berated your guests for not agreeing with Mother Jones stats, yet you can't even get basic facts like this right! So now are you going to lead a vendetta against shotguns??? Joe Biden said we should all get them!!?? You are a joke...
Morgan again, again and again is wrong and never apologizes. He was wrong about Virginia in stating gun deaths and is wrong that the DC shooter used an AR-15, come on, when is someone going to call this guy out for what he is, a slimy brit, yellow sensationalist.
No AR15 was used. No matter how you try to band guns they only us something to kill people as you see around the world. But if its for the kids there was kidnap kids that when on talked about. If its not than what could it be?
What if this is away for them to know who to watch? Let them watch were not cowards that blame others .
Piers....just really have to say I am frustrated with your rants and lack of real reporting. Here we are the day after and find out that some of the things you continued to harp on last night were just untrue..... You stopped being a respectable journalists a while ago and now are just constantly trying to push your own agenda. Nothing wrong with pushing your own agenda except you still try to call yourself a journalist.
How absolutely true. No AR15 associated with the guy in D.C. HOWEVER Mr. Morgan ranted away on it. I will not be watching him again. Doesn't like using the facts, only emotions.
Yeah what he said its.a cheap Knock off and a setup with cheap shots in regards to or desperately trying to copy the Spin Factor, Smo copying the spin factor and calling it the Grill that just doesn't work for a sissy or girly man like pierce. I'd fire him and put someone like the Rock in there. I also heard a rumor that Ms. Morgin Pierce does Skeet with Obama and he's trolling on the air verses PCMB, I wonder what his score is on PCMB. (Politically Correct Media Blogger). ,
Alexis was armed initially with a shotgun. He then shot a security guard and took his 9mm.
Upon entering the bldg., he apparently absconded the AR-15. This is my understanding of the facts. Piers Morgan does not nor will he ever reflect my beliefs. Morgan can kiss my All-American ass!
Hi Clyde,
I agree with you on the reporting. I also think it is a fair question to ask why the AR15 was there in the first place, It obviously did nothing to stop the shooter. It only added to the death toll.
Clyde..there was no AR 15 used at all by the shooter Morgans reporting on this was a irresponsible lie...but then again this is nothing new from the deceitful Morgan who has a history of lies and deceit.CNN should fire this clown immediately.
Piers, when you do not provide sound reasoning for your position, it makes me feel like you lose credibility. It means your opinion carries no weight...at least no more than anyone else who does not lay out a structured, reasoned position. You want people to agree with you but are not willing to do the work. If you want people to follow your lead, then lead.
1. You cannot lead by telling people what to believe. If you ask them what they believe, and why, and then ask them how they solve the trade offs associated with their position, THEN you are leading people to the same conclusion instead of shouting them down – IF – you have a sound position that is supported by facts and reason. I challenge you to use your considerable resources to put together something sound and meaningful if you want to honor the victims.
2. When you try to invoke "common sense" solutions like "get rid of guns so people stop dying", you make me feel like you are politicizing the issue. You give me the sense that you have not thought it out, that your knee is jerking due to emotion instead of reason. It is obvious to most thoughtful people that this is a more complex issue than that. Like most of societies problems, there will be a trade off. If creating gun free zones has worked, you need to show that. Because to many people, it is clear that gun free zones become targets for cowards with guns. I challenge you to show the world that enlarging those zones, and/or reducing the concentration of guns in the "gun zones" has helped. You just might lead me to see things your way.
3. When you only present certain facts and not others, I feel like you are manipulating the discussion, not conducting a debate. I feel like you are wasting your power to make a difference. Your power to make a difference lies in your ability to get a message out, to get an idea out to the world. You have not made me feel that you are the most qualified person to make policy. Your background gives you no credibility to do so. Your analysis gives you no credibility to do so. But you CAN bring together the people that have the credibility. Do THAT, facilitate discovery and policy generation. Use your influence to have a real debate instead of an emotional shouting match.
I have given you four calls to action. Will you take at least one of them and do something good for our society? If you do, I'll support you. If you choose instead to add fuel to the emotional fire that is burning in our country due to the abhorrent actions of our current leadership. When our leaders use survivors and victims of these tragedies to lend credibility to their poorly thought out solutions, it looks as this were some kind of a game. There are no winners because it is not a game. I challenge you to show the world that you are greater than that. Please use your influence in a manner that can cause real change. The world is watching. What will you do?
And by the way... Rick Warren is not Americas pastor. You cant even get that right. Warren is spoke of in the Bible though when they talk of endtime false prophets, doctrines of deamons and all that stuff. He wouldnt know the word of God if it hit him in the face...or you either for all that matters. Did you go to clown college?
Well Piers it looks like you stepped in it once again and spread your stinking irresponisble reporting all over the place. No illegal entry by the shooter and no automatic weapon. Seems like someone should apologize.
Now that FBI Washington field office just confirmed gunman was NOT armed with AR15. Spokesperson says 1 shotgun and 2 pistols recovered. https://twitter.com/PamelaBrownCNN/status/379960354841047040
I can't wait to see Piers Morgan to retract his misinformation, apologize to the guests that were on the show and admit that he was wrong in stating that the gunman bought and used a AR-15 in the Navy Yard killings.
If Mogan even does acknowledge his lies in this horrific evil shooting,he'll blow it off by saying something like "there are still 13 dead".His inflated ego won't allow him to admit his irresponsible deceit ...And somehow a shotgun just doesn't fit the liberal gun grabbing narrative.
Perhaps every citizen in the U.S. should be armed with AR-15s ? After all, it is part of the American culture, then that way people can shoot down innocent people when ever they feel angry or hear voices. I'm so bored with American news, mass shootings and coverage that goes on for 2 weeks straight. If there is no control in the U.S. then why bother reporting these tragedies; it doesn't go anywhere anyways. People sob and then forget about it until the next mass shooting.
Two FACTS are now beyond question. 1) Aaron Alexis did not have or use an AR-15. 2) The bad guy with a gun was stopped by good guys with guns. What is ironic is the constant images of the responders (you know the men who arrived armed to PROTECT themselves and others against the attacker) carrying AR style weapons. Let the import of that sink in for a moment. The AR is THE GO TO choice of those whose job it is to protect, yet we are always told by Piers & others that it has no use in that capacity?
I only watched part of this because I do not agree with Piers, basically on any opinion he has.
I just want to point out that an AR-15 was not used by Aaron Alexis and Piers should apologize for his rant about the need to ban AR-15's.
I am sick of his rants about gun control. If all the guns were taken away people like Aaron Alexis would still find away to kill on a massive scale. Knifes, swords, bombs, and other devices will be used instead. Banning guns is not the answer!
CNN....you should reconsider having Piers on your payroll. I know I would personally watch cnn more if you did not employ him, I am sure I am not the only one that feels this way.
Tim...here here...Mogans ratings are at the bottom of the barrel...mostly because more and more people ae getting tired of his snotty BS..It's only a matter of time before CNN cans this buffoon.
Once again we have a reminder that the type of weapon doesn't matter. The Ft Hood shooter killed more people with only a handgun. Now this guy uses Biden's approved shotgun. When will the easily persuaded people learn?
Ron, you need to remember that this administration thinks that someone on a military base in Texas who shouts "Allahu Akbar" while he is killing 13 and wounding 30 military personnel. Then while in court said the attack was "a jihad against U.S. Wars in Iraq and Afghanistan", says that this behavior is classified as "Work Place Violence".
What a surprise the Liberal machine jumped with both feet into this mess claiming an "assault rife" was use. Shocking to discover that they were in fact incorrect /gasp. Once again the truth is clouded in their reporting by their agenda. Yet they wonder why people don't believe them when they say they only want "common sense gun control"...
Still waiting for Piers to make good on his threat: "I can spare those Americans who want me deported a lot of effort by saying this: If you don’t change your gun laws to at least try to stop this relentless tidal wave of murderous carnage... I would... seriously consider deporting myself." And when you ask what difference the type of guns makes, after an hour long rant about THE TYPE OF GUN, well probably not much as the number of people who still consider you a journalist is rapidly approaching zero.
Yeah that really shows his intelligence, although it would be nice if the screen door was faster than his legs, but being wrong as he usually is, I'd call ICE, they can better explain that there's no such thing as self deportation, but I'm sure that can be arranged. It's probably a good thing at this point. Maybe CNN. Will get tired of you embarrassing them by turning their grill session into a Austin Texas Engineering bonfire ceremonies. They'll probably call Donald Trump in for the "Your Fired " thing, I. Hope they Air that.
Hey Piers,
It is OK to send weapons to Syrian rebels and Al Qayda associates ( http://www.cnnDOTcom/2012/08/01/us/syria-rebels-us-aid/index.html) but you want to disarm the public?
Sadly, once again, boosting ones TV Ratings and social media status takes precedence over facts. Unfortunately, it probably boosted AR-15 sales (again). I think Piers should apologize for his gross negligence... unless he wants to ban Vice President Joe Biden's choice of guns. I don't think we will ban shotguns.
When will Piers see that all of these tragedies have something in common. Not the gun but the mental health issues. And by the way, why doesn't Piers find out how this guy was cleared for access to this site.
Maybe Jake Tapper can tell Piers what the "lead" is.
Piers needs to get his facts straight before ha starts ranting about AR-15's. The shooter didn't even have an AR-15.
The man was cleared to access military bases because he passed all of the background checks required and he held a valid job on the Washington Navy Yard. How did he pass the background checks? He had never been convicted of any Felony's nor had he been INVOLUNTARILY committed to a mental heath facility. He was actively seeking help for mental heath issues for Post Traumatic Stress after helping clean up the World Trade Towers in 2001. Proactive attempts to treat PTSD are not held against veterans, otherwise it would discourage participation and prevent many men and women from seeking help for treatable issues.
Piers:
Here's a thought or two:
1) Keep the sale of guns as is. All semi and automatic weapons, and ammo, will be sent after purchase to your gun club/ range. All will be kept under secure and locked facilities and never leave the premises. If you want to shoot these, you got to your gun club. Where else do you need to use them? Failure for the gun shop to send them to these facilities will result in their closure (I understand they all want to comply with the laws.......)
2) All gun cubs/ranges will provide secure facilities for these weapons. They will charge for this to offset the cost and the cost to the gun owner will be tax deductible.
3) You will be allowed to keep single shot shotguns, rifles and pistols in your home. This will allow anyone to defend their property and person and provide the freedom to hunters to use them whenever they hunt. I do not believe semi or fully automatic guns are needed for hunting or protection, when is the last time someone robbed a house carrying an AK-47?
Removing all guns may not be the answer but putting them where they belong, controlling the access to them after purchase for the purposes they are to be used for, infringes on no ones rights. You can buy the gun, you can use it whenever you want, you just cant carry it around town to kill innocent people.
Are you a Brit?
The rules you are proposing, (Storing firearms and ammunition at the shooting range) were in place in England before the 1990's, yet that did not prevent the Dunblaine Massacre. In response to the Dunblaine shooting England banned all semi-automatic firearms and all handguns from private ownership yet (according the the UK Bureau of Statistics) the National Murder rate is greater today than it was in 1990. (except in 2012, the year London hosted the Summer Olympics and the Queens Jubilee. That year the murder rate fell to 1983 rate, which was another record low year not seen since 1968.)
As Piers is fond of pointing out, the numbers of murders committed by a firearm in the UK are very low (something like 83 per year) but he ignores that the total number of Homicides per year are still higher than before total gun control was enacted. The next question I have not been able to answer. How many JUSTIFIED HOMICIDES were there in the UK? Compare today's Justified Homicides to the number in the early 1990's.
Like Piers, Your proposal holds no water. The problem is cultural, not legislative. and the answer will not be so easy as banning guns.
Steven, there have never been any central storage rules in Britain. Dunblane was a policing failure. The police were warned about the shooter months prior but did nothing to revoke his gun license, despite the request being escalated to the local police chief.
True, gun crime has doubled in Britain since the handgun ban. Also what's interesting to note, is that despite having low gun ownership levels, and a relatively low gun homicide rate, the violent crime rate in Britain is one of the highest in the western world. Furthermore, its overall homicide rate is about 40% higher than neighboring France and Germany, both large gun owning counties, ranked 4th and 5th in the world in terms of private gun ownership levels.
It's simple. No guns........ no shootings.
Right. Just like how DC and Chicago have been gun free zones until just recently, and how there was no crime there either until just recently. Oh, wait.
Walter. Go look up the UK Bureau of Statistics records of Homicides. They maintain a detailed list dating back to Eighteen Ninety Eight. (1898). The UK passed a total Gun Control in 1992 in response to the Dunblaine Massacre, yet in 1992 the homicide rate in the UK topped 700 for the first time in the UK history. . . and it kept increasing for the next 10 years topping out in 2003 at over 1200 homicides (in a Nation roughly equal to New York) The average homicide rate for the next 10 years was about 800 per year. (Averaging highs and lows, and 2012 was a very low year).
So, your statement. No Guns, no murders is FALSE. (At least in the UK) All Homicides have one thing in common. HUMANS. How do you propose to solve that problem?
Morgan has now proved without a doubt that he invents his own facts,to fit his anti gun agenda...Morgan is irresponsible and deceitful, with a history of lies and deceit all through his seedy career. Morgan went as far last night with his foaming gun grabbing lying spew to say that Alexis had bought his AR-15 legally...and we now know that is not true because Alexis had a shotgun and not an AR-15 at all ..and Morgan just lied to push his agenda... One thing is crystal clear from this horrific tragedy,is a shotgun can be just as devastating as an AR-15...But a Shotgun just doesn't seem to fit the liberal narrative.
At least one Canadian commentator is talking common sense when it comes gun control and a recent Harvard study!
EDMONTON SUN: Gun argument shot down
BY LORNE GUNTER, QMI AGENCY – UPDATED: TUESDAY, SEPTEMBER 17, 2013 04:14 PM MDT
http://www.edmontonsun.com/2013/09/17/gun-argument-shot-down
Even before the world knew exactly how many victims Aaron Alexis had killed at the Washington Navy Yard on Monday – first reports were "at least three,"then six and finally 12 – advocates for more gun control were using the tragedy to advance their cause. United States Senator Diane Feinstein, a Democrat from California, asked "When will enough be enough?" She then called on Congress to reopen debate on tighter gun laws – laws that failed to pass earlier this year in the wake of last December's elementary school massacre in Newtown, Conn. Several Hollywood celebrities and even U.S.
President Barack Obama echoed Feinstein's plea for greater control over civilian gun ownership.
But a fascinating study out of Harvard University last month proves what
gun-rights defenders have been saying for decades: There is little or no correlation between gun ownership levels and gun violence. Some of the most violent countries in the world have strict gun control laws, while many countries with comparatively lax gun laws (Norway and Switzerland, for example) have low, low rates of violent crime. What determines whether a country, province or even a city has a gun-crime problem is cultural or social, not legislative. For instance, many of the most violent cities in America – Washington, D.C., Detroit and Chicago – typically have very restrictive gun ordinances on their books. Meanwhile, states such as North Dakota and Wyoming, where guns are easy to come by, have few crimes.
The Harvard study, called "Would banning firearms reduce murder and suicide?" concluded there is little direct connection between the ease of civilian firearms acquisition and the incidence of gun violence. It points out, for instance, that Norway, where 32% of the adult population is armed
(compared with 34% in the U.S.), has one of Western Europe's highest household gun ownership rates, "but also its lowest murder rate."
Russia, one of the most violent countries in Europe, has among the continent's strictest guns laws. Private handgun ownership is banned in Russia. Still, the murder rate there is nearly four times greater than it is
in the United States. Annually, the murder rate in Russia is 30.6 per 100,000 residents. In the States it is 7.8 per 100,000. Scandinavian
countries have high rates of private gun ownership. Yet they also have among
the lowest murder and suicide rates in the world. In Finland, for instance, gun ownership is 39,000 per 100,000, higher even than in America. That is also nearly 10 times the official rate in Russia. Yet Finland's murder rate is less than one-tenth of Russia's – 1.98 per 100,000 versus 30.6 per 100,000. (It's also only one-quarter of the American rate).
As has been pointed out many times in the past, in Switzerland every adult male is required to have a powerful long gun (usually an automatic or semi-automatic) in his home for defence of the country's neutrality against
invasion. Yet Switzerland, like Norway, has a very low rate of murder and other gun violence. The Harvard study also found that the U.S., which we are told ad nauseum is the most violent country in the world, isn't even close to being the most violent country in the relatively peaceful region of North America and Europe, together. In murders, America ranks seventh behind Russia, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. In suicides, it is 22nd.
That's a lot of statistics to absorb all at once. But all those numbers can be boiled down to once conclusion: Even if Sen. Feinstein and other gun-control activists got their way, their solution would have no impact.
Time to get some objective reporting from the BBC.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-24129442
The shooter used a shotgun. No AR15 was used.
Piers Morgan should be on the air apologizing for how many times he is wrong about facts on stories in the news. He is very slack!
Now it is clear that the shooter did not use an AR-15. Maybe we should use a little more critical thought before we rush to judge one specific weapon. This man did this with a shotgun. Shotguns will never be illegal in this country. It won't ever happen. Even Joe Biden says people should buy shotguns. Clearly, gun control is not the magical answer that will put an end to this kind of tragedy. There is nothing in the recent gun control proposals that would have stopped this from happening. Using early and unreliable reports to rush to blame one certain weapon is irresponsible journalism. It also distracts people from one of the bigger issues which is an underfunded mental health system in this country. This man reached out to 911 and others for help. I think the question we should be asking is: why was he not evaluated by a mental health professional and put on a psychiatric hold as a result of the 911 call? This would have prevented this tragedy and save this young veteran's life.
Piers Morgan will be looking to ban 00 buck now. I can see him saying, only the military or police should be allowed to use buckshot, to think that civilians can buy shotgun shells that hold 8 .32 caliber balls is outrageous.
Mr. Morgan, you have absolutely no standing in this country to influence policies. Your job is to report the news and the facts, which seems to be quite difficult for you. The shooter at the Washington Navy Yard did not even have an assault weapon but you jump on the wagon with the rest of the " liberal media".
I believe your only intent is an attempt to inflame the American public on this issue. We have enough problems in our country with out an outsider distorting the facts and pushing your views down our throat. Report the news or go home.
Morgan you going to retract your BS lies about the AR15 or sweep it under the rug like any loser liberal would do?
Your a disgrace to society!
Mr. Morgan I have one question to ask. Why did you report that the firearm used in the Navy Yard shooting was an AR-15? Wasn't it a shot gun? There goes your whole arguement for banning that nasty black rifle. Like many American, I enjoy CNN except for segment and I usually tune you out. You are not a true intellectual who fosters debate, but just an average entertainer. You use bold face lies, sensationalism, and people's emotions to push your brand of thoughtless entertainment. Just remember that for every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. Sooner or later the people in the U.S are going to turn you off.
Proud to be an American in Sterling, CO
Craig. Gilliland
Here's another good one. Why is it all of a sudden a civilian problem with the gun fire on a military installation. That is a bad invention of the News that this is a problem with the USA. So where was the news reports on taking away rocket Launchers and Bombs after the USS cole was hit. How about outlawing steak knives mentally disturbed people use those. How about we make a law that really will have a good affect on the problem. Like say,,,,, hhhmmmm people who are criminally insane are not allowed to have anything that can be used as a weapon?
Craig.
Bravo...........
Piers Morgan is the reason I no longer watch CNN, he screams at & over his "guests". Having lived in the UK for 5 years I have a number of lovely British friends, and they all have the same "laughing stock" opinion of him. If CNN wants me back as a viewer, they will have to cut loose this British buffoon.
I'm still waiting for Piers to retract his accusations that the shooter had an AR-15. Also, what made him think he had one? What source did he have? I bet he'll blame an intern for the misinformation. I watch CNN, but I'm leaning on leaving due to him one sided interviews and cutting off the guests because he doesn't like their answers.
Why isn't he pushing to ban Shot Guns now? The problem is the background checks and the medical community not having a direct link to the FBI. The administration tried to push a Bill for Gun Restrictions as well as a more in depth background checks. I liked the increased checks, but the Assault Weapons Gun Ban section was too much / too quick. It banned current weapons by name / model. It technically made my .22 cal plinker illegal because the ammo tube held 12 rounds. If the Bill would have had the background check section, I believe it would have / should have passed. The current administration got greedy.
Doug N The Founders in the war with Britain relied on their own weapons and non-traditional tactics. The British and the Colonial Army had muskets – easy to teach to fire and inaccurate. Colonials had Pennsylvania (or Kentucky) rifles – accurate at long range weapons requiring training and practice.
The Founders when discussing the 2nd Amendment recognized that the population (militia – all able bodied men) should have weapons sufficient (or superior) to an enemy or the government to prevent attack.
The Founders did not believe in government gun control because they feared the government more than they feared their neighbor. I would suggest not be so willing to increase registration because no country that increased registration ever gained greater safety and usually ended up be more subservient to the government as it became more dictatorial.
The old saw "Don't believe anything you read and half of what you see applies here" the press has abandoned responsible reporting in favor of sensationalism. I don't really listen to the news because fact checking is a thing of the past.
Piers Morgan there are many of us that will chip in to book you a cabin on a boat home. Time to get out of the land of the free and go back where you came from. As soon as you can.
When you read stories like this from Piers' home country about plans by Gordon Brown the then Prime Minister to introduce Marshall Law in the wake of the 2008 financial crisis, I'm glad I live here. Very worrying indeed!

Gordon Brown discussed deploying troops on Britain's streets as news of the 2008 financial crisis became clear, an ex-Labour spin doctor has claimed.
In extracts of a book published in the Daily Mail, Damian McBride said the former prime minister feared "anarchy" once the scale of the crisis was known.
According to the book, Mr Brown said: "We'd have to think: do we have curfews, do we put the Army on the streets, how do we get order back?"
Mr Brown has not yet commented.
Mr McBride, who resigned in 2009 after he was caught planning to smear senior Conservatives, said he had a meeting with Mr Brown on the evening before he announced the part-nationalisation of UK banks in October 2008.
'Anarchy tomorrow'
Mr Brown is quoted as saying: "If the banks are shutting their doors, and the cash points aren't working, and people go to Tesco and their cards aren't being accepted, the whole thing will just explode.
"If you can't buy food or petrol or medicine for your kids, people will just start breaking the windows and helping themselves.
"And as soon as people see that on TV, that's the end, because everyone will think that's OK now, that's just what we all have to do. It'll be anarchy. That's what could happen tomorrow."
According to Mr McBride's book, Power Trip, Mr Brown feared panic from other countries could spread to the UK.
Nothing I report is factual. I am a limey buffoon and I wish someone would shoot me with an AR-15.
Dear Piers Morgan. I read the comment attributed to your name ending with a statement "I wish someone would shoot me with an AR-15". I am concerned because you sound very depressed and must ask. . . are you thinking about hurting yourself? If so, please talk with a close friend or co-worker and request help to see a professional in treating depression. there is nothing shameful in asking for help. Even if we disagree, I still wish you all the best.
Seriously, Steven? How can you put the man down? I like what he's doing in America and I hope he keeps on fighting it. But we all know what will happen to him if he does.
It sounds like you've never stood for anything and the few things you did your mind was changed by the best argument having no reservations of your own. And yes, piers will be fired soon because stupid is not something that goes down easy from a pathetic, in all seriousness, try this for a self help study, stand up for something, not matter what, build it up in your mind, defend it at all cost, and hang in there. That's how people notice you,
You sound and think like a typical American.....shallow, unsympathetic, gun crazy person,. How boring it is hearing about another mass shooting, endless coverage on CNN , then everything is forgotten.
Yea not much of a fight when your always jumping the gun, Pun! Piers will be fired soon, when it comes out he wants Americans killed. His response every time a shooting happens is of supreme Glory that he can report it. Since he is so sincere with excitement that only means that he knew it was going to happen, "odds" so when it does he goes crazy with excitement as if he were there living the dream through the person who did it. Pretty sick if you ask me. But yeah, hoping people get killed so he can report it, pretty damn sick.
Seriously? Does anyone here truly believe Pier Morgan actually replied to anyone's comments on this forum????? Someone posing as Mr. Morgan "wishes someone would shoot me with an AR-15." Which sounds like a suicidal comment to me. "suicide by cop" mass shootings have been in the news since the late 1990's, so I am seriously concerned if anyone is thinking of hurting others with the goal to end their life.
If expressing concern for someone who expressing suicidal thought is considered "Picking on" that person. Then yeah, I am picking on the person posing as Piers Morgan.
If someone is dumb enough to do that. who cares about that, It's chlorine in the gene pool. It will keep them from infecting the planet with offspring. As for Piers. "Give a man a match he'll be warm for a day. "Set a man on fire he'll be warm for the rest of his life." You'll be fired from SS Agenda Machine. ITs people like you, that need to be Fired for spreading rumors, Hate, and Discontent. My statements may be excessively brash, but your the one who flipped that switch!!
Randy, your "excessively brash" statements seem to contain as much hate and discontent as Piers Morgan's show. Not abusive, but not exactly helpful in carrying on a meaningful conversation. Have you written to CNN to request they replace Piers Morgan with someone more in manner of Larry King, Someone who treats all of their guest with dignity, even when they disagree.
Sandra, you talk about "Americans" as if you are an outsider. May I ask what country you call home, and do you or have you lived in America?
Piers has received numerous death threats on this issue because (most) Americans just love their weapons and don't want to hear him talk about GUN CONTROL. I live in Ontario, Canada.....proud to be Canadian....safe, peaceful, had one mass shooting in Montreal University a long time ago. Doesn't happen here like it does in the States. We have less violence here, we're not gun crazy, and mental health care for those that need it.
What irritates me about Piers Morgan is the same thing that irritates me about Chris Matthews or Bill O'Reilly (Last guy is "conservative" host on Fox.) All three people constantly interrupt and insult their guest when they do not agree with the guest point of view.
The death threats are shameful, and from people who think they are posting Anonymously. Truth is, there is very little that is truly Anonymous on the Internet. there is a trail right back to your PC every time. If Mr. Morgan truly thought he was under threat he could file a complaint to the FBI and the individual in question tracked down.
Real world, What I believe will happen to Piers Morgan is, his ratings reportedly are not nearly as high as Larry Kings were, and as he continues to mistreat his guest he will continue to lose viewers. Eventually CNN will cancel his contract and Piers can go back to something he is truly good at. Being a judge on "America's Got Talent.
Canada does seem to have a better Mental Health Care system, though I have heard horror stories about Health Care if you have an ailment that is expensive to treat. (long wait times). America trashed our Mental health care after serious abuses were discovered back in the '60's and '70's. Now the mentally ill's right to choose if they take their medication is more important than keeping society safe.
While it seems that there have been numerous mass shootings (3 or more victims) reported in the news, reality is the number of events have not changed over the past 20 years. (just after Pres. Clinton signed the "Assault Weapons Ban". What is very interesting is, the total number of murders in the United States (by any weapon) has dropped from 18,000 (roughly) in the mid 1990's to 14,500 (roughly) for the past three years. The last time the United States saw national murders under 15,000 was 1969. That is better than both the United Kingdom and Australia, both who passed severe gun laws. Australia's murder rate is a little lower, but the UK is actually higher than it was before the gun ban was passed. (Sorry, I have not looked up Canada's records. Will work on that in October.)
What does that prove? That the problem of murders is a HUMAN problem and is not driven by any particular weapon. I have read Studies published in the Harvard Journal of Law (not pro-gun) which indicate that the number of firearms available in any given country had no relevance to the number of murders carried out every year. There is something about the society that controls the prevalence of murders. Good societies have low homicides, bad societies have high homicide rates. The UK is about the same land mass and population as several individual American States. If you compare the murder rate of the UK to any one State, and the UK suddenly looks very dangerous while living in America looks very safe. However, as with any country or city, There are places that Good Citizens do not want to be after dark. Or if you DO find your self there, a prudent person will have the means to defend themselves.
I am starting to ramble. I appreciate you answering my personal questions. As I mentioned before. I will do some research of Canada's homicide rate (if I can find where they keep those stats) to add to my UK and Australian Data. Maybe we will cross on a CNN comment again to compare notes then.
I like what he is doing. I hope he keeps up the fight.
Sandra, you closed your first post by saying "I home he (Piers Morgan) keeps on fighting it. But we all know what will happen to him if he does." What exactly do you think will happen to Piers Morgan if he continues to argue for a ban on firearms in America?
