"Piers Morgan Live, Rewind": A cancer patient directly impacted by the government shutdown, and a day inside Washington

Whether you fell asleep early, stayed out too late, or simply want to watch it again, we realize it's not always possible to get your entire "Piers Morgan Live" fix from television. As an answer to this, we offer the below labor of love – "Piers Morgan Live, Rewind" – dedicated and designed to getting you caught up and connected to the conversation.

  • "A coin flip" – Cancer patients life hangs in balance of government shutdown

On the backdrop of the government shutdown, on Thursday Piers Morgan welcomed James Brady, a Washington University School of Medicine cancer patient.

Three weeks ago, Brady signed up for Obamacare and began chemotherapy, however the week's standstill in Washington has forced him to face some extremely harsh realities:

"This is a scary situation for me," Brady began. "Right now, I feel like Obamacare was the shining light of my dark situation, but now with the - while the congressmen shutting down everything I feel like my life is in a coin flip right now ... It's all a really scary thought."

Joining Brady, Dr. Brian Van Tine explained that most of his patients are "in their prime," making the the sutdown that much more unfortunate:

"James here had a business and, you know, his life has been turned upside down," explained the Oncologist. "We have a foundation called CJ's Journey that's helping these people here and we do everything we can because I think it's important that I push as fast and as hard as I can for somebody especially like James who is curable."

Watch the above clip as Brady further explains the two sides of his aforementioned coin:

  • James Lankford and Bob Casey Jr. inside D.C.

As the government shutdown moved deeper into its third day, on Thursday evening "Piers Morgan Live" asked a pair of politicians to offer their inside Washington persecutive:

"We've got to make sure," began Bob Casey Jr., a Democratic Senator from Pennsylvania, "not to go anywhere near defaulting our obligations. It would be the first time since 1789, we'd have a depression or recession for sure and I think we can get agreement on that. We get passage to a crisis then I think we can move forward and end the year on a positive note."

James Lankford, meanwhile, a Republican from Oklahoma chose to use a chunk of his time on the program to praise Morgan's earlier attention paid to the day's dramatic car chase in Washington:

"Thanks for your great coverage tonight and very compassionate coverage of the shooting that happened on the Hill," he said. "That's a very tragic scene and I appreciate the way that you covered it tonight."
