Bill Richardson on the government shutdown: "We're on the brink of a major decision, a catastrophic decision if we don't take action"
With the debt ceiling deadline rapidly approaching, and as the United States stands mired in a third week with its government shut down, on Tuesday night "Piers Morgan Live" asked Alan Dershowitz and Bill Richardson to share their personal perspectives on the man many say is at the root of the problem: Ted Cruz.
"[Ted Cruz was] one of the sharpest students I've had in terms of analytical skills," explained Dershowitz, a Harvard Law School professor. "I had 10,000 students in my 50 years and I write about my great students. He has to qualify among the brightest of students."
However, how does the political commentator feel about Cruz's recent actions?
"I think he deeply believes what he's doing," noted the author of the new book entitled "Taking The Stand." "I don't think of him so much as a tactical or strategic thinker. He thinks he's doing the right thing, it doesn't mean it's the right thing but it's hard to get off that principled argument. He was not a compromiser."
In the eyes of Richardson, America is on the brink of a "catastrophic decision if we don't take action."
Joining Piers Morgan for a live, face to face interview, the former Governor of New Mexico continued:
"Here's what I would do: I would test Ted Cruz with a vote," suggested the author of "How to Sweet-Talk a Shark." "John Boehner can test his own members. I think the key player is John Boehner. He can go tomorrow to the caucus after the senate presumably passes a bill, possibly overriding Ted Cruz in a filibuster and say 'look, I have achieved the goals that you wanted me to ... I've shut the government down. We've succeeded in doing that. We now have the outlines of a potential deal, tax reform, some kind of entitlement reform, spending cuts. We tried on Obamacare. It didn't happen. We have to move on.'"

I think that when all middle class people quit their jobs and joing Obama care and get on welfare, then president Obama will be happy. What is the point of working our buts off if we will be having the same amount of money as some one living off the goverment. My husband works about 70 hours a week and almost half of his paycheck goes on medical insurance and taxes. Thanks to Obama care, now we pay even more on medical insurance. We don't ask for goverment helpbut at this point people on food stamps and welfare have more food in their refrigiators than us. It is getting to the point that it might be better for our family for my husband to not even work. At least then my children will have food and shelter and medical. But I guess it doesn't matter as long as the president and democrats get their votes next election. I'm tiered off hearing people smash the republicans for all this. Everyone I know, who work , are with the republicans, we just don't have time to be doing polls or blogs because we are working.

All elected representatives in Washington including the president were elected by the people, for the people and of the people. Washington has me in a situation to where I have to decide what bills to pay due to furlough. Since I have been placed in this situation by means beyond my control and as one of the people I here by terminate all of our elected officials employment. Stop the BS.

It seems like the democratic elected politicians are committing a crime to the American people and the world for that matter by not taking there responsibility serious. It is sad to vidness that the hard core of the Tea Party is controlling the bad and sad development. To some extent should the real responsible persons be sent to court and trailed for the damage they giving the society. It is not enough that they will not be elected at the next election but even if it happens they should face to be responsible for the crime they have committed by not acting as responsible politicians. It is not some kind of a game they are involved in it is real life.

It seems it is OK for states to force you to have car insurance, which includes uninsured and underinsured motorists. Whether you like it or not you are paying for the uninsured to get medical treatment. Why not have them pay for their own health insurance coverage. My health insurance plan keeps going up because of people seeking medical treatment without insurance. It is time they buy their own healthcare plan!
