Bill Maher on Obamacare: "It's going to be a rocky birth but it's not going to fail"
Coming up this evening, Piers Morgan welcomes Bill Maher for an insightful and entertaining primetime interview, asking the comedian and political commentator to share his thoughts on everything from pot and politics to guns and FOX News.
As the topic turns to the recent techncial difficulties surrounding the Healthcare.gov website launch, the host of "Real Time with Bill Maher" notes that issues often plague programs in their infancy:
"First of all, every program of this size was a headache at first. So was Bush's Medicare prescription drug program for the old folks. Remember, 'hey, free Viagra, have a boner on George Bush, remember me at the polls,'" he jokes. "Social security, Medicare, all these programs have these kind problems when you start with them."
Despite strong resistance from the Republican Party, Maher insists that Obamacare will ultimately be a success:
"Americans really want coverage. Of course, it's going to be popular, it's about your health, the health of your family. It's a life and death issue and again, it was there, it was created because people were dying and the country was going broke," Maher tells the "Piers Morgan Live" host. "It's going to be a rocky birth but it's not going to fail."
