One day removed from Chris Christie's landslide victory in the New Jersey gubernatorial race, on Wednesday night "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed Frank Rich, asking the "New York" magazine essayist to share his insight as to the nationwide impact of one night at the Garden State polls.
"I think Christie's victory is meaningless in terms of the national Republican Party," said Rich, of the man who has earned himself four more years as the New Jersey governor. "This is not an acceptable candidate for the Republicans who are going to vote in presidential primaries."
According to Rich, Christie's disassociation with his party will be a significant roadblock as he eyes a 2016 run for the White House:
"He didn't even use the word Republican most of the time he was running," he told Piers Morgan. "He's a New Jersey phenomenon. Is he a national phenomenon? Only if they – I think – cancel the Republican primaries and have Wall Street say that they can appoint the candidate. Then Christie would get the Republican nomination."
