Sarah Thomson on Rob Ford: "I feel sorry for him ... I think he's really got an illness, and he's got to deal with it"

As the head-scratching antics and highlight-reel quotes of Rob Ford continue to fascinate much of North America, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed Sarah Thomson, a woman all too familiar with the Toronto mayor, having run against him for the office in 2010.

"I feel sorry for him. I think he's really got an illness, and he's got to deal with it. And he's hurting Toronto," Thomson told Piers Morgan. "I think people are saying, 'Look it, is there a crack problem, is there a gang problem in Toronto?' And they're fearing that."

Upon scheduling Thomson to appear on his program, Morgan noted that he had received a significant amount of reaction, in particular from people suggesting his guest was an ambitious woman, often pushing a personal agenda. On Monday Thomson pledged her loyalty to Toronto, denying any rumors of self-importance:

"It's all about Toronto. And I think we have to start thinking about Toronto. I've always been about how we put Toronto on the map, how we make Toronto a world class city. Rob is about Rob," she said. "Rob has a lot of problems, and he has to get them fixed."

What is the point that Morgan is discussing Toronto's mayor on American TV show? Is it purely for the purpose of entertainment? Let Torontonian deal with their mayor.

Did she tie back her dread locks? This lady is worse than Ford and a complete whack job.

Whack Job would be an understatement. Just so everyone is aware, she's saying that Rob Ford is all about himself and not for the City of Toronto, when he's probably the only counsellor/mayor to give out his personal home phone number in case you have an issue within the city. Sarah Thompson is out to lunch and frankly just looking for a little exposure.

Sarah Thomson you don't have to feel sorry for Mayor Ford. Attacking someone who you claim is ill for your own gain is crass and shameful!

I can't imagine you and your arrogance in a position of power at City Hall serving the people of Toronto. MAYBE THE SENATE? lets ask Mike Duffy.
Your lack of compassion would not serve the people of Toronto. It would serve a selected few like yourself. Shame on you!
Sarah aka "BATMAN"on Pierce Morgan saving Toronto from danger WOW!

Austin Deeds kills himself after stabbing his father. Estrangement is not natural. It is a silent epidemic the media needs to address.

Please take this with a grain of salt. Sarah Thomson has never been elected to any form of political office anywhere, she is literally a nobody in Toronto. Why CNN chose her to represent our city is dumbfounding as her comments were, as usual, ignorant and vacuous. She does not represent Toronto and it's a bewildering CNN didn't even bother to research who she was (isn't).

Last night they asked if Mayor Ford has done what he said he would. First of all even if he did what he said he would his behaviour is not that of an elected official. He took an oath of office to respect the integrity of his office. He has not done that. He is dragging the city through a scandal of his own making.
But in terms of his promises this is the most complete article to prove he absolutely has not done what he said he would or currently says he has done. Im sure Ford Nation won't read this because Ford continues to perpetuate this us vs. them against the media. But for people who look for facts over sound bites this is an excellent read.

The Ford's spent yesterday attacking the tax payers they say they protect. The Ford's practice divisive politics. With all that Ford has done the worst is thing in my opinion is how he uses an urban sub-urban divide for his own gain, while tearing the city apart in the process.

Ms. Thompson is one of Toronto's biggest opportunists. Right up there with Councillor Karen Stintz and Adam Vaughan. I am a resident of Toronto. I do not support the Mayor, and never voted for him. I agree he should be gone. That being said, Ms. Thomson's comments are completely self-serving. She is plotting her course to her announcement to seek the Mayor's seat in 2015. She has no goodwill towards the Mayor and hasn't for years now. Please CNN, do your research before bringing on hacks like this to spread their personal agendas.

Sarah Thomson is a nobody in Toronto...She does not represent Toronto citizens...She does not speak on our behalf...She is an constant embarrassment to our city ..She is an unelected officials tell taxpayers and businesses to pay more taxes..I cannot understand why Piers Morgan would interview this idiot whose only claim to fame is her friendship with John Tory family and the billionaire media family Thomson.....

I am usually on board with you, but for you to listen to this a ss & think it is amusing or likelable is beyond the pale.

He has apologized , lied, apologized lied , apologozed lied and some fell hook line & sinker. PLEASE denounce your remarks...he has admitted to drunken driving & said disrespectful words your kids should not hear. Never mind illegall drugs, meetings with drug, guns & gang dealers. Man, give your head a shake!

Sarah Thomson gives her life to the city of Toronto. She runs a nonprofit – that works to build a better city, she gives her time to charities and speaks at schools across the city. She doesn't get paid for this. We had her out to a fundraiser and she gave her time freely and spoke about how to make Toronto a better city. She made a fortune in her business and is spending her life now giving back. Those above who have called her an opportunist are fakes who work for Rob Ford.

Well Mortimer Crane I don't work for Rob Ford and I'm sure the other commenters didn't either. It's so disgusting how every time a person sides with Mayor Ford you assume were not legit ! Get a life ! I also wonder who was responsible having Sara Thomson on there. Probably paid her way on. She IS a nobody and her campaign slogan was Don't drink the coo lade when she ran against the Mayor and lost.. She can't stand Rob Ford and is a hypocrite for saying she feels sorry for him ! She loves every minute of the bad press he gets, .
