Rick Warren on social media: "The Internet is increasing the amount of rudeness"

Coming up this evening at 9, "Piers Morgan Live" invites Rick Warren to join the program for a face to face, prime time interview that proves equal parts emotional and insightful.

On the heels of the terrifying new phenomenon that is the game of "knockout," the senior pastor of Saddleback Church suggests that the anonymity of the internet has supplied a venue for acts of unkindness that might otherwise go uncommitted:

"I think that the drug of choice today is fame. I think fame is more important to ... young adults today than anything else. And everybody is trying to live either, A, a perfect life on the Internet and posting like "My Perfect Life" on Instagram or it's Twitter and things like that, or if I don't have a perfect life, uh, if I can't get approval, I will get attention," Warren tells Piers Morgan. "And I will get attention by doing something bizarre and mean-spirited or whatever."

Citing personal examples, in which the man of faith has been attacked via cyberspace, only to personally meet an offender that proves significantly less imposing from out behind his or her technology, the well-known American evangelical Christian pastor offers a narrative on society:

"Our civilization is losing its civility. And the Internet is increasing the amount of rudeness. And the reason why is if I'm sitting here talking to you like this, we have to have a sense of some civility. We can disagree on all kinds of stuff. In fact, we do ... but we can be civil on certain things and treat each other with respect," explains Warren.

"But when I hide behind a screen, I can throw firebombs at you and say all kind of mean-spirited things."

Watch the above clip as Warren offers further societal analysis, and for the full interview, tune in to CNN tonight at 9.
