As the one year anniversary of the tragic Newtown, Conn. school shooting approaches, on Monday evening "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed Erica Lafferty, a young woman as impacted by the events of December 14th, 2012 as anyone.
Lafferty's mother, Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung, was the principal of Sandy Hook Elementary school and died trying to protect her students.
Joining Piers Morgan for a primetime interview, Lafferty discussed her recent wedding, an event at which the late educator's memory was represented, and honored:
"I got married in the dress that my mom and I picked out, at her house in the Adirondacks, in the shoes that she would have tormented me for wearing. We had almost the entire wedding planned together and I did it exactly the way that she wanted it to be," she revealed. "I knew that day would have been perfect for her. It was perfect for me. It was perfect for my husband. And I knew she was with me."
Amidst all the wedding day details, and last minute touches, Lafferty carved ut a few moments to visit her mother:
"I was able to go to the cemetery to be with her that morning. Only for a couple minutes because I knew I had to get out quick so I didn't completely lose it and ruin my day," she told the host. "I think it's exactly the day she would have wanted me to have."
