A preview of CNN's "Sole Survivor" film
In advance of Thursday evening's primetime airing of "Sole Survivor," an exclusive CNN film dedicated to the experiences of individuals safely emerging from plane crashes that claimed the lives of all others on board, "Piers Morgan Live" welcomed a pair of a guests uniquely qualified to share their personal insights.
In 1985, 70 people died following the crashing of Galaxy Airlines Flight 203, a charter from Nevada to Minnesota that burst into flames less than two miles from the runway. The flight's sole survivor, George Lamson Jr. no longer dwells on being the only person spared:
"I went through that for many years. I would think about 'why me' and it brought me into a bad place," revealed Lamson Jr., who was 17 at the time and lost his father in the crash. "It took me a long time to realize that if I don't focus on 'why me' and just appreciate what I have, that brought me to a better place. The why me brings negative."
While much of the media coverage surrounding Lanson, Jr.'s survival was entirely positive, Amy Clay admits to dealing with a drastically different scenario. In 2006, Comair Flight 5191 crashed during take off from Kentucky. Bound for Georgia, 49 of the 50 people on board perished, including Clay's husband, the pilot.
"We had aviation experts that wanted to chime in and make assumptions about him that were not - they didn't fit with the person that I knew," Clay told Piers Morgan, describing the second-guessing and armchair-quarterbacking that followed her husband Jeffrey's crash. "These were total strangers that had never met Jeff at all, and they all had an opinion because they all wanted to have their name in the paper. I don't really know what the motivation was."

After watching the ads leading up to last night's movie of the Lone Survivor, I was disappointed that there wasn't more about 4 year old Cecelia who survived the crash of flight 255 back in 1987. I lived near the crash site back then, and I have always wondered how that little girl ended up. I knew that her parents and brother all died in the crash, and that she was raised by her aunt and uncle and was kept out of the public eye. But there was very little about her. I know that she is a private person, and that she grew up as a happy person, but more facts about her would have been great. Especially when CNN led us to believe that it was a story about her.
