"Piers Morgan Live, Rewind": Chris Christie comes under fire, Dana Loesch returns from her ban

Whether you fell asleep early, stayed out too late, or simply want to watch it again, we realize it's not always possible to get your entire "Piers Morgan Live" fix from television. As an answer to this, we offer the below labor of love – "Piers Morgan Live, Rewind" – dedicated and designed to getting you caught up and connected to the conversation.

  • Buono and Wisniewski on NJ Governor, Chris Christie:

The start of the 2014 has seen a pair of scandals plague the office of New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

First off, Christie is dealing with the release of emails from members of his office that claim lane closures on the George Washington Bridge – the busiest bridge in the world – were a form of political retribution against Fort Lee Mayor Mark Sokolich. Sokolich, a Democrat, did not endorse Christie in his re-election. The lane closures caused hours of delays, yet Christie claims he knew nothing of the revenge politics game that was happening right under his nose.

Additionally, Christie is currently being investigated by federal auditors for misusing relief funds from Hurricane Sandy to pay for a multi-million dollar campaign – “Stronger than the Storm” – that included TV ads featuring Christie and his family.

On Monday evening, Piers Morgan invited members of the Republican Party to come on his show and defend the embattled politician. Such invitations went unaccepted. Instead, Democrats John Wisniewski and Barbara Buono each joined the program live offering strong opinions on both of the storms Christie is presently attempting to weather.

Buono, who unsuccessfully opposed Christie in his run for re-election, returned to the rhetoric she used during their battle for the Governor’s mansion:

“I think it should have gone to the families that are living in trailers," said the New Jersey State Senator, referring to Hurricane Sandy relief funds. "And I raised that during the campaign and I'm glad to see that the federal government has finally opened its eyes to that and will conduct a full investigation.”

As the topic of conversation turned to the scandal surrounding lane closures on the George Washington Bridge, now coined “Bridge-gate,” Wisniewski pulled few punches:

“No matter how you look at it, it's not a proper use of government resources to close lanes on a bridge for a political vendetta and that's what happened here,” claimed the New Jersey State Assemblyman who represents the 19th legislative district.

Wisniewski, who sees this as an “abuse of power,” does not accept the notion that no laws were broken as part of "Bridgegate." For him, it’s about “how many laws were broken and who broke them.”

  • The return of Dana Loesch: Piers Morgan lifts his ban of the Conservative

Monday evening also saw Morgan invite an all-star panel to debate the issues troubling Christie’s administration, as Dana Loesch, who hosts her on show on "The Blaze," CNN political commentator Marc Lamont Hill, and Washington Correspondent for The New Yorker Magazine, Ryan Lizza, each joined the show.

For Loesch, it was a return to the program after having been barred by the host. In celebration of the new year, Morgan lifted his own ban, prompting Loesch to state, “I knew you couldn’t quit me, Piers.”

Jokes aside – the panel then got down to business. Loesch pointedly asked why Christie’s scandals were garnering so much media attention as compared to Benghazi, the IRS scandal, or anything else that Barack Obama faced in the past year, in the process calling it “a double standard.”

Hill jumped in with his own reaction:

“I think there's like a verbal tick among Conservatives that whenever you mention anything with a Republican, they have to say, 'Benghazi.'”

Loesch was quick to combat the statement:

“A verbal tick? You call four dead Americans a verbal tick?” she questioned.

In response, Morgan framed Loesch’s point, posing a question to Hill:

“It comes down to accountability, doesn’t it?”

Hill concurred:

"It absolutely does...I think it was important to question Barack Obama with regards to the IRS. But what's baffling to me is this idea that Conservatives keep offering that somehow we won't talk about Benghazi. All we ever talk about is Benghazi.”

Tonight on Piers Morgan Live, Bill Pascrell miss spoke when saying that "one lane" was shut down. All other reports say two of the three lanes were shut down. What's that about? He is from NJ.
