Marc Lamont Hill on IRS targeting, Benghazi, and phone records: "They're not presidential scandals ... they have nothing to do with him"

With Washington still reeling from a series of so-called scandals, on Thursday evening Piers Morgan invited Margaret Hoover and Marc Lamont Hill to offer their candid commentary on everything from Benghazi, Libya to phone records and IRS targeting.

"Yes, they're scandals. All three of them are scandals," began Hoover, an author and political strategist, before placing her statement into context:

"I think the American people are smart. They are able to distinguish between their approval rating of the president. And by the way, there is no clear connection between the president and the IRS scandals right now," she pointed out. "Ronald Reagan was called 'The Teflon President.' Why? Because none of the scandals from the second administration stuck to him."

Despite the aforementioned trio of controversial incidents, Barack Obama continues to be viewed favorably by the public. According to Hill, this has as much to do with the other side of the aisle, as it does with the man residing on Pennsylvania Avenue:

Abby Huntsman and Marc Lamont Hill on Jason Collins' ex-fiance

Huff Post Live's Abby Huntsman and Marc Lamont Hill joined Piers Morgan on Tuesday evening to help usher in a new segment on "Piers Morgan Live," "Breaking the News," where Morgan and guests take an in-depth look at latest news of the day.

On the topic of NBA basketball center Jason Collins' ex-fiance Carolyn Moos and Collins' recent announcement that he is gay, Huntsman commented on the fact that "she [Moos] was with him for eight years," with the understanding that he was heterosexual.

"She imagined spending the rest of her life with him," said Huntsman. "If I were to date someone for eight years, imagined myself marrying him, all the while him knowing he's gay and not being able to love me the way that I love him and just kind of stringing me along, I can understand why she's shocked."

"It actually opens up a much more interesting and provocative conversation about sexuality," noted Hill. FULL POST
